Todays dist-upgrade to 7.0.17 is clean. Those of you, that dont have the problem yet, can dist-upgrade. Everybody else must use the fix.
Please do not dist-upgrade untill further notice.
Xorg 7.0.16 is faulty. It will result in KDM hanging in a loop.
If you have problems already, this workaround should bring you back into KDE:
# xinit -e startkde

[edit] the fix before a new version of xorg appears, is: go to init 3: alt - ctrl - F1, become root - type: init 3
# apt-get install --reinstall -o DPkg::Options::=--force-confmiss -o DPkg::Options::=--force-confnew x11-common
