Hello,

I see that actually three kernels are offered, what do mean the extensions for the different kernels : what kernel to use for a upgrade on AMD 64 bit

Stable Kernels

2.6.17.13-kanotix-2
2.6.17.13-slh-up-1
2.6.17.13-slh64-smp-1

Kind Regards

For standard 32 bit Kanotix use the first, for Kanotix 64 the last one. The up kernel is basically special purpose.

Hello Kano,

Thx I will use the last stable kernel. But as you allow me what is the meaning of the up kernel and/or what mean the slh in the name.

Sorry for being curious.

kind Regards

Roland

hello rvlerick!

the slh in the name means that this specific kernel is build by slh and up means that this kernel is build for systems with only one processor ( the other kernels are always compiled with smp support )

You might want to note that some systems (unfortunately almost all of my computers) have hard lockup problems with the smp kernel. I have no problems with the up kernel.

The up kernel seems to be the "safer" choice. It is also the logical choice if you have no need for smp.
