Downloaded the iso last night and loaded it on a spare hd this morning. Took 21'19" to install.
My internet service came up right away after running "Network Card configuration " and DHCP. My HP 7260 doesn't work either thru KDE or the browser (localhost:631). Got a "printer not connected" error from the browser config when I tried a test print. The USB memory key works great right off! Sound came up great after running alsaconf and I'm enjoying great jazz on Streamtuner as I write this. A probblem I've been having with Audacity may have gone away with this distro...still have to run from oss to avoid i/o error message but it seems to record without the abrupt shutdown of before.

Love the new graphics...oh, got a failure for "Splashy" on startup...not sure what that's all about.
Guess I need to go back and reread the release notes...thought I saw something about it there?

Kanotix just keeps getting better. Alll the hard work and wizardry certainly shows. The adventure continues!

Yep. I installed it last night, too. It's a pretty slick distro.

As for your HP, make sure you've got HPLIP loading at bootup (it doesn't startup by default).

Control Center>Kanotix>Boot>Services

You'll need to unfreeze it first (you'll see a checkbox). Refreeze it after.

Then use the localhost install at http://localhost:631/

When you install it, you'll probably see it appear more than once in the detected printers list. With my HP, I have to select the second choice that shows up (the one with all of the funny looking serial number, etc.), using the recommended driver for HPLIP.

Then, it works like a charm for printing and scanning in Kanotix 2006-01-RC1 (that's one of the first things I checked out last night after installing the latest Kanotix).

Also, make sure it works OK with the HPLIP Printer Toolbox (Settings>HPLIP Printer Toolbox)

If HPLIP isn't started, it won't install properly from what I saw last night (typical for most distros). Ditto if you select the wrong choice for the printer (chances are, it's showing up more than once, as this behavior is typical for most Linux distros I've tried).

Thanks Jim, Will check out the HPLIP next. Just got done running du-fixes-h2 and nvidia install, both without a hitch. Very nice. So far, this is the least problematic Linux install I have ever done. I'll continue to update here as I get better aquainted.

Later: Ahhh! Very good. Followed instructions above on the HP printerand all is well now. Easter was nice but I'm really liking this distribution so far...wishing I had abandoned caution and did the upgrade on my primary drive so that I'd be done now...but will try to stay disciplined for a while and see how everything shakes out for a week or so.
