good article here

sorry ubuntu dislikers, context is the ubuntu meeting, but the interesting stuff is in what is developing in the major desktop areas.

Some very promising stuff, by the way, especially in regards to xorg 7.3 finally being able to handle swapping graphics hardware. I was glad to see that I am not the only person to miss the functionality that sax2 provided.

Looks like our xorg.conf headaches will soon be a distant memory. And good work on the 3d nvidia open source driver front as well. I know I'll be switching to those as soon as practical, I have no use for gaming 3d stuff, just need the card to work with dual monitors.

I like this bit
Zitat:
Shuttleworth says that "Feisty will actually warn you that you're running proprietary drivers and point you to alternative hardware ... so you're better educated for your next hardware decision. I don't expect this to be very popular with Nvidia or ATI, or with manufacturers of proprietary-only Wi-Fi cards, but of course the easiest solution for them is to open source their drivers."
Now if ubuntu's popularity is good for anything, then it's this kind of blackmail.
