Can someone tell me if there is a diferens between using the patch (rc4) and doing a apt-get - dist upgrade?

What hapens if I do "apt-get upgrade" without "dist"

And if I shall use the patch, how to do that.

Partly I might be able to answer your question:

1.
Kanotix/Debian Sid should only be dist-upgraded in init 3. The reason is, Sid is not a stable distribution and a simple upgrade might miss dependencies you need.

2.
If there is a difference between a dist-upgraded system and the release only the masters of Kanotix can tell you. All my machines work to my greatest satisfaction, so I do not run a CD-upgrade. But I daily dist-upgrade (unless there is a warning).

3.
If you have just installed your Kanotix and never have done a dist-upgrade, then I would recommend a CD-upgrade. It spares you some problems you have to fix, the CD-upgrade does it automagically.

That's the part I know.

Greetings
hubi
