I believe support for this motherboard chipset will be included
in the 2.6.18 kernel.
In the meantime It would be nice if someone could produce a
patched kernel that would support vt8251 or ensure vt8251
support is included in the next Kanotix release/preview.
At the moment I cannot offer a Kanotix CD to my friends who
have a vt8251 chipset simply because the kernel cannot access
their SATA hard disks.
I've downloaded and tried a patched Kubuntu 6.06 on a vt8251
machine. It works (with AHCI) but IMHO Kubuntu is an awful disto.
I certainly wouldn't want to offer it as an example of Linux to my
friends. |
