I rarely say anything nice about LInux distros (bad habit of mine)

But, I just wanted you guys to know that I think you did a super job with 2006-01-RC1

I installed it last night and I've seen very few bugs (other than little things like Konquerer not showing folders or files until you refresh the display the first time around), and a few quirks with my RT2500 based adapter (which is working using the included dirver in Kanotix 2006-01-RC1).

It's a very nice looking distro (big improvement in this area), and it's also a fast distro.

The nice looking graphics make a very good first impression (at least with me). The improvement in things like the default background for the destkop, graphics at the login prompt, etc., all make it more appealing to someone test driving a new distro. Looks do make a difference. lol

It's also probably the "snappiest" performer I've tried to date (at least on my hardware using the kernel included with a distro versus a different one). Even browsing speed flies using the built in driver with my rt2570 based adapter for some reason. Very nice performance.

I even appreciate the little touches. For example, with some of the previous Kanotix versions, I really couldn't see the menu choices very well (because of transparency being enabled).

Now, with it turned off by default, that's no longer an issue and I didn't need to spend time changing it. The fonts also seem a bit more consistent to me.

So far, I think it's the best Kanotix I've tried to date.

Please keep up the great work!

I too thought performance was up on previous releases- and that was from live cd not installed... Nice work.. Smilie

Perhaps the final release should be even better...Kano and his team of developers surely don't stop in making Kanotix better and better with each release. I remember trying 2005-3 and it was a bit buggy...

I believe with word of mouth more people can be using this distro and then Kanotix will move up the Distrowatch charts (maybe topple Ubuntu)

Thanks to RC4 I've at last been able to iinstall Kanotix on
a friend's machine (and will install it on another's tomorrow).
They had been interested in Linux but had been unable to install
ANY Linux distro on their machines because their motherboards
had an onboard VIA vt8251 SATA controller.

Now thanks to Kano's RC4 and the included 2.6.18 kernel they
can install Linux. For the first time RC4 has opened the door to
other potential Linux users who have this SATA controller.

On behalf of my friends (and possibly many others) I thank you Kano.
