Titel: Hal and primary hard disk  BeitragVerfasst am: 01.12.2006, 04:02 Uhr

I have posted regarding this before. But tried fresh with a RC4 install tonight on my spare partition to see if it was any better and hoping somebody will think of something.

I have 100 GB hard disk as master on primary IDE. Four partitions, all FAT32, Windows XP and a place to store things from linux since I really don't use Windows for much of anything anymore.

Second hard disk is slave on primary and that is my linux drive. I have two partitions I keep my various Kanoti on.

Problem: Easter Kanotix, once I upgrade hal past 0.5.7.1-2_i386, I cannot access the windows partitions in KDE (presumably in X at all). I can mount them from CLI. But that doesn't cut it for me since that drive is my main storage for all my KDE apps to put things and music and all that good stuff.

There was a known bug with that version that was supposedly fixed with the next. Not for me. I keep hal frozen, occasionally let it go to see if it is fixed and no, have to put that old one back on.

Tonight I installed RC4 on the spare partition which of course brought in a newer hal when I du-d and I have the same problem there.

Even etch has progressed beyond hal_0.5.7.1-2_i386 and I don't know how long this old hal will keep working with newer everything.

Please help. My next step is trying an Etch install to see if it is something with the Kanotix parts. If hal lets me down there too, I don't know what to do. I have Googled my guts out and all I find is the bug is fixed. Not here it isn't. Weinen

Thank you very much. I will try it out as soon as I get home tonight. Crossing my fingers!

Weinen well crossing fingers doesn't work. Didn't want to jink it but I had a feeling that was just a patched hal. Even the unpatched hal 0.5.7.1-2_i386 works but if I go beyond it. Oops, there goes the primary drive. I am going to wipe the RC4 and put on current Etch. If I still have a problem I will plead with Debian gurus. I think maybe it is my partitioning scheme? I am open to any suggestions and will post the output of anything anybody thinks will help.

This really is going to be the deal breaker with me as far as any Debian goes. I cannot keep my old hal, only Sarge has a hal older and that is going to go byebye real soon.

There must be an answer to this.

Nish
