When I tried to shut down Kanotix live CD, it would not do so.
I finally punched the off button, but when I try to boot to XP with the Kanotix disk out of the drive, now it keeps asking for a system disk.
I have to hit F9 to get to the hard drive to boot XP.
What has happened?

Well maybe you should pull the plug from your PC, press Powerbutton, replug it. That kills any possible interferences from use of a LiveCD - until you wrote something on your hd.
