I had the following error message after logging in as root with su
and the start of an application:
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified
(firestarter:4890): Gtk-WARNING cannot open display::code:
The explanation, from the #kanotix IRC channel:
"<slh> sux is a wrapper for su, which also pays attention to the x11 magic cookies"
