Hallo

Ich surfe immer noch mit dem Mozilla Browser. Kann mich irgendwie nicht trennen von dem Teil.
Nun lebt das Ganze ja als Seamonkey weiter und es gibt auch rpm's für Suse usw..
Kommt Seamonkey auch irgendwann für Debian auf den Server?
Auch nach langer Google Suche hab ich nichts passendes gefunden.

Man kann das Ding natürlich einzeln starten (gibts ja als tar) aber gefällt mir nicht so besonders.
Und aus .rpm mit alien ein .deb zu machen, habe ich auch probiert. Funktioniert nicht so ganz. Wird zwar erstellt und ich kann auch mit Kpackage inst, aber nachher ist Seamonkey nicht mehr zu finden?

Da es Seamonkey mittlerweile in einigen Debian basierenden Dist gibt (ubuntu z.B.), hab ich nochmal gegoogelt und hab das hier gefunden:

Wenn ich das richtig lese, sollte Seamonkey in Experimental sein.
Ich hab die Sourcen für Experimental freigegeben und nach Seam. gesucht, aber nix gefunden?

Kann ich die einfach in meine Sourceliste einbinden ?

rolo48: In die /etc/apt/sources.list kannst Du das (noch) nicht eintragen. Aber Du kannst diese Pakete manuell runterladen, und mit dpkg -i *.deb installieren. Wenn Sie ohne Probleme laufen, sag makke Bescheid, dann können wir sie in unser inoffizielles Repository geben (http://kanotixguide.org/debian).

In Experimental (oder gleich direkt in Unstable) wird es wohl bald kommen, derzeit werden aber noch einige Abhängigkeiten von Libs geklärt, die auch von anderen Paketen benutzt werden.

leider ist der Server seeehr langsam, aber wenn ich die Pakete runtergeladen hab, in welcher Reihenfolge muß ich sie inst.?
Ich hatte schon mal probiert, das Browser Paket mit Kpackage zu inst., scheiterte aber an vielen Abhängigkeiten.

Ich habe die erwähnten Pakete soeben getestet, und sie sind noch nicht fertig. Auf keinen Fall installieren, das Paketmanagement kann nachhaltig beschädigt werden!!
Sobald sich daran was ändert, poste ich hier wieder.

I am the one that built the seamonkey packages.
The whole thing isn't the way it should be yet. The main remaining problem lies in the fact that I am unable to assign a ${binary:Version} to the libnss33 and libnspr4 package. I really have no Idea how to do that. Is there anyone here that can help me with this? This fix would mean that Seamonkey cleanly installs over existing mozilla installs.

Vielleicht bekommen wir dann eine Kanotix-Exklusiv-Version von Seamonkey.

Ich stell mich gern als Tester zur Verfügung, aber zu mehr reichen meine (immer noch) bescheidenen Linux Kenntnisse nicht aus.

So far, I don't seem to get any further, so no updates yet.
I'll elaborate a bit on how you can install and use the version currently available:

First you'll have to remove the existing libnsp4 and libnss3. This operation has to be forced as a lot of packages depend on it.
As you do put a version of these packages back, the system will keep working.
To force deinstallation: "dpkg -r --force-all libnss3 libnspr4"
next install the seamonkey packages: "dpkg -i libnss3_<version> libnspr4_<version> seamonkey-browser_<version>" (and any other packages part of the suite).

To use it: type "seamonkey" (or pick it from the menus).

To remove: remove all packages beginning with "seamonkey.." normally.
Remove the libnss3 libnspr4 the same way as before, so: "dpkg -r --force-all libnss3 libnspr4"
Install the ones from your sources: "apt-get install libnspr4 libnss3"

It took quite a bit of fiddeling, but I now have a working version, that installs sort of correctly:

- libnss3 and libnspr4 upgrade to this version.
- seamonkey-browser replaces mozilla-browser
- settings in /etc/mozilla are understood and copied bij seamonkey
- plugins are copied from mozilla to seamonkey

It's available at the same location: http://hjh.passys.nl

This is definately not the final version, but it is a very usable first test, so please tell me what works and doesn't work for you.

Hmmm, strangely wget also does recursive to higher folders.
You're right, you only need the stuf in the experimental folder.

Better also not to install the -dev files yet, as they are not needed for operation.
So if you already installed them remove them with: "dpkg -r libnspr-dev libnss-dev seamonkey-dev"
The error you get, is because your version of libpopt0 is too old.
do: "dpkg -r seamonkey-browser seamonkey-psm seamonkey-mailnews seamonkey-chat seamonkey-js-debugger seamonkey-dom-inspector" and next "apt-get install libpopt0" to get a newer version.
Now, install seamonkey again (-> "dpkg -i seamonkey-browser seamonkey-mailnews seamonkey-psm seamonkey-chat")

Seamonkey läuft!
Allerdings nur Start über die Konsole oder manuell einbinden ins Menue. Wobei ich noch Probleme habe, Mailnews einzeln zu starten. Bislang nur Start als Ganzes.

"apt-get install libpopt0" funktionierte erst, als ich nochmal Mozilla komplett gelöscht hatte.

Also, die Einbindung ins Menue fehlt noch und sonst werde ich den Seamonkey erstmal einige Tage testen, ob irgendwas passiert.

Nachtrag: Ist doch im Menue eingetragen, aber unter Debian/Anwendungen/Netzwerk/Seamonkey Components....
(Allerdings sind die Icons die alten von der Mozilla-Suite?)

Unfortunatly you have to remove the mozilla suite completely before being able to use seamonkey. There's just too much that would otherwise interfere.

The menu entry: in the debian menus it works, and I assumed that it would automatically also be found in the kde menu but apparently it is not. I have no idea how that works, so if anyone can tell me how to put an entry in there, please do so!

Starting mailnews works the same for me as starting the browser. on the commandline: "seamonkey -mail". But I am typing this from a newer revision, so it might not work for you yet...

I'm trying to get this working without its own libnspr and libnss packages, and I think this will happen in the next version. I'll keep you posted.

This one runs entirely on xulrunner libs!
Before installation, you need to have libnspr4 libnspr-dev libnss3 and libnss-dev removed! If you have anything else then mozilla depending on these libs, please upgrade those programs (new versions all run on xulrunner libs).

Please test it, as I think this one is the way it should be. With some lintian checks and refinements, it should be ready to be integrated.

Nach dem heutigen Dist-Upgrade hab ich Seamonkey nochmal neu installiert. Ging diesmal ohne Fehlermeldung durch.!

Bleibe nur noch das problem mit der automatischen Menueeinbindung und den "alten " Icons von von der Mozilla-suite

Bin ich eigentlich der einzige, der Seamonkey zur Zeit testet?. Seamonkey ist im Vergleich zu FF wesentlich schneller im Seitenaufbau. (meine ich)

please remove the packages you are currently using.
Download the ones now on the server.
The new ones contain all the menu entries.
The icons are still an issue. There are no new icons in seamonkey except for the one. If you know of a set, please tell me.

ich hab jetzt die letzte Version inst. und hab Seamonkey gerade unter Gnome laufen.
Funktioniert alles soweit, bis auf Mails mit goßem Anhang. da ist Seamonkey-Mail ein paarmal ausgestiegen. Ohne Fehlermeldung!

Your crash problems with large e-mails are new to me. However, I did notice the same behaviour when using forums or gmail with seamonkey. It doesn't crash always, but occasionaly it does. I'm afraid that this is related to the fact that it runs on the xul libnspr and libnss files. Apparently the combination is not 100% stable!
I don't think that there is a solution for this, but that seamonkey will need its own libs. This would mean rethinking the way Debian currently wants seamonkey packaged (what I did now is basically how they want it).
Building it the way the old mozilla suite was; with its own libs isn't possible anymore as it conflicts with the current xul devel libs. I'll ask some questions about this in the seamonkey/xulrunner lists.

Security updates... probably will be merged as they get available. Nobody started building Seamonkey before 1.0.4 because there were too many (security) issues. But since 1.0.4 I haven't seen security fixes for it yet, they probably will come, and I will merge them.

hab immer noch das problem, das seamonkey ab und zu sich unvermittelt ausschaltet! ohne vorwarnung und ohne fehlermeldung!

Nachtrag: mußte seamonkey erstmal entfernen. alle 2 minuten ein komplettabsturz.

@slam: ich hab immer noch nicht richtig verstanden, was der hendrik eigentlich macht.
macht er das mit seamonkey in eigenregie?

The sudden crashes of Seamonkey can not be prevented with the way the package is currently structured.
To fix it, I need to find a way to integrate Seamonkey's libnspr and libnss packages instead of xulrunners.
Unfortunately the current Debian Sid tree, leaves no room for this (if I would do this, I would create a conflict with the xulrunner packages).
I've mailed to the buglist regarding Seamonkey to ask about this.

And no, I am not part of any Debian packaging team. I do this, because I want to see Seamonkey as part of Debian, and I hoped that some "proof of concept" would speed things up.

Xulrunner is most likely the only way to get Seamonkey into debian, especially considering the fights between debian and mozilla.org concerning proper symbol versioning and ABI compatibility in the past.

Just an rtfm style/ lazy web question, does seamonkey use gtk2 dialogues (file selector) or the older custom version which was present in ff until 1.5?

And yes, Seamonkey uses gtk2 style dialogues, but you can also compile it to use old style dialogues.

This one has a libnss3-sm and libnspr4-sm again, and you need them!!!
Please remove the previous version before installing this one.

I overhauled the directory structure a bit in the /Experimental section.
There are now 3 versions of seamonkey available:
-6 Xulrunner based, an probably not stable (because of that)
-7 Working on its own libnspr and libnss, but no -dev files, same build settings as -6
-8 Working on its own libnspr and libnss, with working -devs (not sure if these are even needed) with different, probably more stable, build settings.

edit: Versions -7 and -8 use libnspr and libnss in such a way that in can be installed next to Firefox, mozilla-suite or thunderbird. Of course you can not run seamonkey and mozilla-suite at the same time, as they use the same profile.

ich habe mir jetzt mal Seamonkey "Testinstalliert", nach der obigen Anleitung a la "apt-get" bin ich zwar noch nicht zum Ziel gekommen, aber mit den Sourcen hat es geklappt!

PS: mir geht es erstmal ums Handling, Integration in KDE und Geschwindigkeit, sprich wie "fühlt sich SeaMonkey in Kanotix an.

hier in "Bearbeiten/Einstellungen/Erscheinungsbild/Themes das "mostlycrystal" auswählen.

So, und dann mal alles durchgetestet, was soll ich sagen, alles recht schnell, stabil und integriert sich in KDE ganz hübsch. Selbst in den Pulldown-Menüs sind alle Icons von "crystal" wohl korrekt da.

Achso, bitte so nicht in ein "produktives System" installieren !!!, nur als Preview

I've updated the Seamonkey files once again.
This is the final build of 1.0.4 it's -9, and it is stable.

I've been chatting to sme developers, and there is talk of skipping version 1.0.x alltogether and go directly to 1.1.
As a test, I built a 1.1 already. I have NOT tested this one at all!!! so use is at your own risk!!!

A strange, but fortunate side effect of the current Seamonkey 1.1alpha build, is that a lot of extensions work out of the box.
Extensions like enigmail that only worked in the Debian packaged incarnation up till now, now also work when downloaded from http://enigmail.mozdev.org

The main points of improvements are:
- update-seamonkey-chrome now works as it should (I doubt if it's even been working on the former mozilla-suite versions)
- Dictionary link to system myspell libs is now working
- Some files are moved around to the packages they should be in
