Ok it doesnt like me:
3ddeskd: glXIsDirect failed, no Direct Rendering possible!
3ddeskd: Please configure hardware acceleration. Exiting.
My vid card is nvidia and glxgears reports my fps as some where between 4000-5000, so I know it works.
infobash -v output:
Host/Kernel/OS "KanotixBox" running Linux 2.6.16.16-kanotix-1 i686
CPU Info AMD Duron clocked at [ 1800.255 MHz ]
Videocard nVidia NV34 [GeForce FX 5500] X.Org 7.0.0 [ 1024x768 @85hz ]
GLX Renderer GeForce FX 5500/AGP/SSE/3DNOW! | GLX Version 1.4 (2.0.2 NVIDIA 87.62)
My ram is 512mb ddr 400, so it should be plenty.
Any ideas? What am I missing? I installed the Nvidia driver using Kano's script and it works just fine, all my games like Chromium and Tuxracer run perfectly.
If I can't get that working is there a way to get the KDE translucency effect working without X crashing? Just trying to get some sweet eyecandy on my desktop.

wait for xgl to be in sid, right now its plain luck to get it working, and should only be done on test-installs.

3ddesk is not xgl, it just some useless desktop-switcher for kde (nice for impressing windows-people though...).
had some problem with it too which were gone after reinstalling the nvidia driver (glxgears worked before too).

You were right reinstall nvidia driver and 3ddesktop works. Definitely something to impress a windows user.
