Software - Alsa issues fingers99 - 18.06.2006, 06:10 Uhr Titel: Alsa issues
Using kanotix-2006-easter-rc4 installed to HD, Debian style.
Sound has stopped working. Alsa conf does the business, locates the right driver, seems to be loading the right modules, but no sound application works.
The card itself is fine and plays ok from the cd.
Any ideas welcome. I remember a similar issue in Knoppix about 3 years ago, but...........
ok

mixer settings in kmix are ok?
do you hear this command: play /usr/share/sounds/startup.ogg
what do these 2 give as output:
cat /proc/asound/cards
cat /proc/asound/modules
No sound at all? First step I always do is looking at the alsamixer settings. Start it in a console:
$ alsamixer
Mute everything you do not need (typing just "m"). Especially "External", "Aux" and others (I do not know what hardware you have, what is how connected). Just give those settings a try. Works in 99 percent of all cases.
If you still do not have sound, give us more specific information: soundserver settings, applications you want to use.
But it might be alsamixer settings, I have perfect sound through alsa on all of my Kanotix-boxes.
Greetings

Thanks both. Turning everything off except master and pcm did it. Happy Easter Bunny now
