I have some mpc files that I want to convert to mp3's.

try soundconverter
(apt-get install soundconverter gstreamer0.8-musepack)
gstreamer0.8-musepack for mpc-support
(SoundConverter is a simple sound converter application for the GNOME environment.
It reads sound files in any format supported by GStreamer)
