As some of you may know, Puppylinux is the creation of one person - Barry Kauler.
Other developers though contribute to the development on an informal and adhoc basis.
I understand from Barry Kauler 's blog that he currently deliberates on both a partial or complete retirement from the main development of Puppylinux and at the same time switching the future system basis to a binary compatibility with one of the large Linux distributions.
I would like to competently contribute to this discussion in Barry Kauler 's Blog but I cannot.
I would very much appreciate though, if competent figures could contribute from a Kanotix perspective to a just beginning discussion in Barry Kauler 's Blog on the binary compatibility topic.
I could imagine - in theory - an extremely valuable cross-fertilization between Puppylinux and Kanotix if the future development of the former could adopt the same system basis as Kanotix: Debian.

Yes. BK is stepping down but not out of the picture entirely.
The Puppy community is still very active keeping software up-to-date and making improvements. New versions are in the works with teams working on different ideas. Exciting times. What they come up with is bound to surprise.
I cannot really see any "cross-fertilization" between Puppy and Kanotix. Not much has happened on the Kanotix front since most of the developers moved to Sidux a year ago or so. Too bad. I really liked this distro in its hayday.
I see where Parsix linux still uses the kanotix network tool. So Kanotix still lives on in some ways. That tool is one of the best going I might add.
I hope Puppy does not die off for lack of leadership.
It is sad to see the greats go down. |
