If you get tired of looking for Martians with seti@home, why not donate some spare cpu cycles to SIMAP? It has small work units and minimal computing requirements (even a K6 clunker will do). Plus, Munich is a cool place and it's in Bavaria like Kanotix!

--To get started the easy way--

Download the BOINC client:
apt-get install boinc-client

Download a handy GUI front-end:
apt-get install boinc-manager

Create an account:
http://boinc.bio.wzw.tum.de/boincsimap/create_account_form.php

Open the BOINC manager and attach to the project by entering the url:
http://boinc.bio.wzw.tum.de/boincsimap

That's all. You can close the manager and go about your business as usual, the daemon will run in the background.
