I got a 4mp webcam (speed s8800i) that is connected on usb but can't seem to get it to work on Kanotix 2006-rc4.

I tried:
K->Graphics->Camorama Webcam viewer
K->Graphics->Gtcam
and KDE Control Centre->Peripherals-Digital Camera

none of them seem to detect the webcam...!

However, it seems to be detected on by the system since $ usbview brings up this window with information that includes:
Code:
$ usbview
EHCI Host Controller
USB20 Camera
USB20 Camera
Speed: 480mb/s(high)
USB Version: 2.00
Device Class: 00(>ifc)
Device Subclass: 00
Device Protocol: 00
Maximum Default Endpoint Size: 64
Number of Configurations: 1
Vendor Id: 0c45
Product Id: 6270
Revision Number: 1.00
...
...

any help?

Code:
~$ camstream
Failed to open configuration file for reading.

I have a Inca Tv pci card as well, so I don't know if what's below is that or the Webcam!

That's your TV card. Try launching camstream from the Debian menu, but I'm afraid the webcam won't show up either.

nope!
launching camstream from Debian menu didn't work either!

If the web cam is detected by the usb, how is it that I can't get it to see it??
if this is simply drivers problem, how hard would it be to use it's winxp drivers????? (the vendor has no linux drivers nor intentions to make them!)... I mean, drivers for a hardware is simply hardware information vis a vis hardware<->os, right?
~ after all, it is been detected just not able to be used!

I am not expert on USB devices, but the fact that Kanotix "sees" a device doesn't necessarily mean there's a driver for it.
