I always used kde before 4.x because of all the configuration tools and also all applications but after 4.x I can't stand kde, maybe it's because I don't understand what it is about and all the new terminology ( I have no idea what widget or map view means and so on, I don't need all that shit either).
Since kde 4.x I have used xfce and it does the work I need for a GUI. I have also tried lxde but I think it needs a little more work.
Kano, is there a possibility to see a xfce or lxde Kanotix version in the future? |

Hi vilde,
I'm afraid a LXDE or XFCE Version will not appear on Kano's agenda. The Excalibur-KDE.3.5 will stay as the default desktop until Squeeze will be released.
So far the optional KDE 4.3-Version is a good opportunity to become familiar with KDE 4 without stumble.
Anyway some guys in the German part of the forum here are trying to get a LXDE/XFCE-version, too. http://kanotix.com/PNphpBB2-viewtopic-t-26286.html |

Heyo Ho Vilde,
At least you might want to install lxde/xfce additionally to the exisiting KDE4
Theres no problem with that. This way you can switch between kde4, lxde and xfce if you want to.
lxde and xfce are easy to install and configure so there is no need to have it done by others - in fact i always liked the Desktop Environments most i installed and configured myself (had kde4 on my laptop before it was out for and with kanotix so i liked the kde4 isos - kde4 is noch that different from kde3 and you can even make it look almost like the old kde4) |

@vilde
I am no real friend of LXDE/XFCE, do you really need it in live mode? |

Kano hat folgendes geschrieben::

Not really, I only thought that I would like a clean xfce installation without the heavy kde things installed, on the other hand I am not using any old slow hardware so It probably doesn't matter. And I know, lxde and xfce is only some apt-get away
Thanks |
