Hi,
Can anyone help me with some wireless diagnostics,
or rolling back the new kanotix 1.112 firware update?

My wireless was working fine yesterday,
till I installed the new Linux-firmware package for Kanotix.
Any ideas why this happened and how I can get my wireless
working again?

Hardware is a broadcom b43xx using the LP-PHY driver

Code:

root@Laptop:/home/Dell# lspci
09:00.0 Ethernet controller: Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 88E8040 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller (rev 12)
0b:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCBCM4312 802.11b/g LP-PHYM4312 802.11b/g LP-PHY (rev 01)
root@Laptop:/home/Dell#

root@Laptop:/home/Dell# ifconfig wlan0
wlan0     Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 00:23:4d:12:a4:79

          TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
          RX bytes:0 (0.0 B)  TX bytes:0 (0.0 B)

root@Laptop:/home/Dell# lsmod

ndiswrapper           192844  0

I tried -ifconfig wlan0 up
with no results

Code:

root@Laptop:/home/Dell# iwlist scan
lo        Interface doesn't support scanning.

eth0      Interface doesn't support scanning.

wlan0     No scan results

pan0      Interface doesn't support scanning.

I would like to undo the updates which Kpackage installed
but I dont know if this is possible without rendering the OS useless.

Here is a list of updates I installed, to the best of my knowledge
it is the linux-firmware (kanotix 1.112) which is not working with
the B43 LPHY driver. Any tips would be appreciated!

Code:

Solved!!! I was reluctant to install a new kernel..

though this is within the scope of my abilities, I had
invested an unbelieveable amount of time custom tailoring
this operating system. I must say its been a great experience
and Im very happy with Kanotix. I have recommended
and installed it dozens of times. Thank you!

After several failed attemps from the command line..
I opened Synaptics and re-installed the b43 LP-PHY driver
(the LP stands for the low power version of the b43xx
broadcom chipset for Dell laptops) then re-installed the
lpphy Installer ver. 4.174 and verified b43-fwcutter
was installed correctly. I rebooted and wireless was
back up and connected over WPA2

so re-installing both the b43xx firmware and b43xx intaller fixed it Smilie

Youre guess is better than mine!
Ill try the new kernel eventually,

Thank you for your help! Ive been really pushing this OS and
well its just amazing.. thanks again!
