Titel: Same problem with latest kanotix easter rc4 :(

Well i just can't get my head round this, using a previous kanotix with updates etc, i had 3d acceleration and opengl screensavers all working fine.
Then last night i see this nice new rc4 version out so i done a clean install, then done an "apt-get install kde" to get the rest of the kde stuff including the screensavers.
Then when i test out the opengl screensavers still don't work, and i still have no 3d acceleration ?
It's a real shame because this kanotix is the best linux i have ever come accross, and believe me i tried most of them out there.
Does anyone know how to solve this at all ?
My laptop is a hp nx6110 with intel graphics 910gm/gms 915gml
The damm thing used to work fine, so i'm guessing it's all to do with this xorg 7 ?

corky,
apt-get install kde is a bad idea.
you should get that stuff through dist-upgrade, ot, if you use install, do it in init 3, when kde is not running.

Did you also install the 3d drivers? It's easy for Nvidia & ATI. Just use the script.

install-nvidia-debian.sh

Then test for direct rendering like so:

glxinfo|grep rendering
If you don't have Nvidia or ATI then tell us which gfx card/chipset you have.
Now I'm not a KDE user but I'm unsure how apt-get install kde is a bad thing.

kde - the K Desktop Environment official modules
kde is just a meta package for some KDE modules. |

Hi guys, thanks for the replies,
Well i just done another clean install, then just tried the gl117 flight game and i do not have any 3d acceleration at all.
Then i installed just the kscreensavers only, and the opengl screensavers struggle real bad.
Then booting into init 3 i done an apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade, still the same problems.
After the clean install kanotix is using xorg i810 for my video drivers, this may be where the problem is ?
This laptop graphics card is the intel 915GM/GMS, 910GML

| Xorg 7.0 told gl and glx for these intel chips are not ready for your card. Latest version for X-servers from Xorg is 6., if gl or glx is needed. |

| ok so does that mean i can't fix it with this release of kanotix because of the xorg 7 ? |

| Right, you can't fix this until XORG 7.0 has the solution. Can take a while. |
