Well there is a tool for configuring the network card. Get root and run the tool.
Code:
su
netcardconfig
Alternatively it should be found in the Kanotix menu IIRC. |

Ah, good question, sorry I misunderstood you !
I have never used or configured a USB ADSL connection before, but, the physical installation of a USB modem is similar to an ethernet modem.
There is no ethernet card necessary obviously. So connect the phone line between the DSL wall jack and the modem's DSL port, and attach the USB cable to the computer's USB port. |

I eventually brought a cheap router which just works compared with the difficulties withgetting USB modems to work / start up on boot etc..
Try http://sourceforge.net/project/showfile ... p_id=47406 for drivers etc.

Yes DSL needs a phone line (atleast here in the states )
Your best bet would to buy a cheap network card and a router, but I am sure someone else has set it up without the above, you can also use google for setup configuration on your modem in linux |

I believe Streamyx uses ADSL (xDSL). You should be able to use broadband and your telephone line at the same time. You need to split your telephone line, install a filter in the phone line, and connect one 'telephone' connector to your modem. Getting this modem to work under Linux can be done but an ADSL modem/router is easier. It doesn't need to be wireless; it will have an input for your 'telephone' connection. An ADSL modem / router will cost about $40. (Your PC will need to have an ethernet network card to connect to the router - if you don't have one, this is <$10 for a PCI card). Looking at the Sreamyx website, they appear to provide a networked modem so try and change the USB modem they have provided for a network modem.

I bought this modem from my computer vendor, not from my ISP.
So if the router is 40 USD (I guess) so the router my country will be about RM 150 (1 USD = RM 3.60) and I had to buy a PCI card for $ 10 so through the exchange will be RM 36 and the total is nearly RM 190.
Very expensive to me ( im poor) |

Thanks for your reply,Im posting question there.
But can someone here(kanotix english forum) solve my problem.
I think its better to solve problem here rather going to other forum and posting another thread here.I already posted this thread in slax, knoppix, sourceforge and here so I have to check many forums.
( doesnt matter as long my problem can be solved.) |

Freedie, streamyx uses the telephone line - you will see a telephone line connected to your modem. You can use your telephone at the same time. Telekom provides you with a splitter to filter out the noise when you use the phone line.
I can't help you with your usb modem - never used one. Hopefully someone here can help - perhaps you should change your thread title to: how to configure USB ADSL Modem in kanotix, assuming that's the OS you are using. BTW, are you using kanotix, because hardware detection would be quite crucial. And you might want to just see if you can access your modem by going to 192.168.1.1 using your browser. If so, the settings there can help someone here figure out how to help you.
If your modem has two outlets - USB and Ethernet, then use the Ethernet. A network card costs about RM30. Configure using PPPOE. Otherwise, good luck.
DSLreports is helpful. Another forum you should try is forum.lowyat.net which has a broadband/streamyx section and a tech support subsection. Unfortunately your issue is configuring the modem in linux (I assume everything works in XP since a driver should be provided with your modem) but you might be lucky to find a linux user there. But ask the right question: how to configure/set USB adsl modem in linux (and tell people the distro you are using).
Hope this helps in some way. |
