yesterday everything was ok. the sound worked. Today it says:
"please check that:
your soundcard is configurated properly
you have the correct output plugin selected
no other program is blocking the soundcard"
on windows it works.

yesterday i was playing a little with the login options and different session types (IceWM, TWM) and the 'start new session' thing. i somehow i managed to mess things up a bit and turn off all the grafical sessions (F6, F7, F8 in this case), so that there was only a dash flashing...
than i pressed ctrl+alt+F2, typed 'shutdown now', didn't seem to work, typed 'halt', computer turn off.

i think come .config file got overwritten or something... is there a way to fix it? Thanks in advance. (don't really feeling like reinstalling it all again... for the 7th time...) Weinen

Hi,

make sure that you have selected an ouput that is not
being used by another program. I don't know what software you
were/are trying to use, but check the preferences and try a diferent
output like aRts or OSS.

If your soundcard its not detected at all, try alsaconf as piper
says and if that doesn't work, update your kernel if you haven't.

brechacik,

for quite a while now the old "modprobe snd-pcm-oss" does not work anymore (obsoleted in kernel?).

Could you please report, which packages (programs) are affected, I might know the answers if it is not hardware related or alsaconf did not fix it.

It would also be great to leave a quick note if something has worked.

hubi

Thanx people, alsaconf fixed it. Sehr glücklich

Alsaconf can help in most cases when a soundcard goes astray and needs a nudge to get working again Überrascht
