You don't need Synaptic.
Code:
apt-get install splashy splashy-themes
Reboot - splashy is already working.
You can change the theme:
Code:
splashy_config --set-theme <theme>

And after that? I don't have any splash then. When I activate splashy in rcconf I get at least a shutdown screen. But I get no startscreen at all. |

Ah yes you probably have the freeze-rc script on your system. (I always remove that script).
unfreeze-rc.d
rcconf
freeze-rc.d
Anything that tries to add a start script to run levels is denied becasue of that script. |

Having freeze-rc.d running by default on new kanotix installs ... does this lead to more problems than it solves? |

People complained about dist uprade and software packages activating all kinds of services without notification. I think the script was added to stop that. |

rcconf would be useless, better:
update-rc.d -f splashy-init remove
update-rc.d -f splashy-init start 01 S . stop 01 0 6 . |

Thanks, that works. But: is it normal that when I use F2 to see the bootmessages only a tiny window in the upper left corner opens instead of fullscreen? Also: when I activated splashy in rcconf I instantly got the messages when I hit F2, now that window is blank until the pc has nearly shutdown completely. |

Yes, splashy is not perfect and F2 verbose mode is not functioning correctly. Use ESC for now. |
