I tried it and I was really surprised. It works properly beside my keyboardlayout and OpenGL. I can´t start e.g. Americas Army
Code:
Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0".
Cheat protection disabled
Either GL_EXT_bgra or glDrawRangeElements not supported- bailing out.
Moreover, the fglrx-controlis confused.
Code:
Driver does not provide the FireGL X11 extensions!
Well I tried it and it is really nice, but still buggy. We will see how future versions will be...
Here are some screenshots:

I tested with fglrx driver and it works. Here is few tips to see effects. Nothing so fancy but still...
RAIN - shift+f9
CUBE- ctrl+shift+arrow left or right
APPLICATION SELECTOR - alt+tab
APPLICATION OPACITY - alt + mouse wheel
APPLICATION LIGHTNESS - shift + mouse wheel
ARRANGE AND VIEW ALL WINDOWS - Moving the pointer to the top right screen corner turns on or off; clicking a window will zoom
SWITCH DESKTOPS ON CUBE WITH ACTIVE WINDOW FOLLOWING - Ctrl + Shift + Alt + Left/Right Arrow
ZOOM IN OR OUT - super key + mouse wheel
If the Windows or Super key is not working in KDE then add the following to your xorg.conf file under the section InputDevice for Keyboard
Option "XkbOptions" "altwin:super_win"
So it should looks like this
Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Generic Keyboard"
Driver "kbd"
Option "CoreKeyboard"
Option "XkbRules" "xorg"
Option "XkbModel" "pc105"
Option "XkbLayout" "us"
Option "XkbOptions" "altwin:super_win"
EndSection |

It worked fine with my 128MB ATI 9600 PRO in 2006-01 RC3 live mode single head. I'll try double head right now |

it definitely WORKS with fglrx and 2006-01 RC3.
Thanks, it will probably be a couple of days before I get to try it. Also, thanks to you and the others for getting me away from MS. Finally, a linux that I can run and understand somewhat and everything works. The helping people here are great. Thanks for your hard work, it is appreciated.

Now the install-compiz.sh script works in live mode too
One trouble report with the install-compiz.sh script and the RC3 liveCD on a Thinkpad with an Intel 915GM chipset. Script finishes and relaunches KDE but after a few seconds it kicks me back into terminal mode as if I hit Control + Alt + F1 again. IRC suggested running script on a test system with a HD install. Will try that later and report back.

Tried it in live-mode on a Toshiba-Laptop with Radeon Mobilitiy 7000 IGP and it works - but I wonder whether the "wobblely desktop" is what I really want? Thanks for the script and the work behind it.

Okay, I am officially very impressed.
Kano, yes it does definitely work!! Great work.
josk, thanks for your post. I had run the script and logged back in in kde. Okay, what now. I remembered your post and tried some of your commands. Blew me away. One question though, what is super-key? Yes, I am new. I use kde if that is important.
Piper, thanks again for showing me this great distro!!

The install worked great and I have played with the themes and the preferences. My only problem so far is that my numberpad isn't working. I tried tying in a password and discovered that the numbers don't show up, I have to use the numbers above the keys.

With AIGLX the keyboard still works. That's a problem with Xgl. Just ATI has no support for AIGLX. |

Kano's XGL installation script, "install-compiz.sh", has a "-u" switch that allows you to uninstall it. It's written for a stock installation of Kanotix 2006-01-RCx (or for when running from the live CD with unionfs), which doesn't include Gnome.
The uninstallation will return Kanotix to its previous state. (In other words, the script is designed to work this way.)
Which means, if you're running a hard disk install, and you had Gnome installed before you installed XGL using Kano's script, and then use Kano's script to uninstall XGL, a bunch of essential Gnome packages will get nuked, and you won't be able to run Gnome until you reinstall them. |

I have installed XGL + Compiz on my laptop with 2006 RC3.. I found it pretty unusable, because the touchpad left button is mapped as right click, while the right button has zoom functionality.. I tried out cheking few options (xgl, ksynaptics,ControlPanel -> Mouse), but with no result.
Anybody with the same problem? Suggestions? |

Seems to work OK here, mostly. Alt and Ctr keys on right side of keyboard don't seem to function, but left side does. Anyone experience that before? Right clicking on the compiz cube and choosing kwin got me back to what I was used to, but the system lagged really badly- even typing. Choose compiz again and things work smoothly again.
Have an ATI MR9600 w/ fglrx installed by kano's script, last d-u was two weeks ago.
Edit: so now how do I re-enable ctr+1 taking me to desktop 1 and so forth? |

Thought I would add this in. I discovered that if I turned the num lock off the keys worked. With it on they wouldn't. Works backward for some reason.
Have just installed 2006-1 RC4 and am trying to get compiz working again. I couldn't get all of the errors but it had something to do with beryl. I think that is the new name of a branch. Has anyone got it working with RC4?

Compiz (script) don't work anymore as far as I know (not 100% positive)
beryl "aiglx" is the "new one" which I myself cannot get to work with my ATI for more than 10 minutes before it reboots my computer |

Wow, that was a fast death. I had it mostly working just three days ago, but really couldn't live with the lack of 2 keys and no ctr-f1 through f4 to flip from desktop to desktop. |
