I did apt-get install for tor and privoxy. I did that as root, becouse there was no other way. It all went fine. But I have two problems:
- Tor and Privoxy don't start on boot
- Tor and Privoxy need root permissins to start them
I also have a problem with firestarter. It runs as a system service but it reqests a root password after boot.
I want Tor and Privoxy to start at boot and (if its possible) dont ask for the root password.
Can anyone help. I would be greatful for an essay on this topic:)
Best regards

Whatever. I need help with the configuration. Rumors spred the web very fast. Not all of them are worth trust. I belive that tor does slow down browsing but it's a price I can pay. |

Tor isn't really worth losing the browsing speed. Privoxy is ok to use.
Actually using Tor Button seems to be easy than using the Switchproxy extension also. |

suslisko, I use tor, and I think it's great. When I installed it, I was surprised at how easily it installed. All I did was follow the easy instructions here:
http://tor.eff.org/docs/tor-doc-unix.html.en
Now one thing you must do if you are running kanotix, you need to unfreeze your init rd's before you install any services/daemons, other wise they wont start on boot.
So you'd do as root:
unfreeze-rc.d
apt-get install tor privoxy
freeze-rc.d
... now they will start on boot.
freeze-rc.d is a kanotix feature, but I don't like it, and I do "unfreeze-rc.d" upon installing a new kanotix and leave it unfrozen (ie I don't do "freeze-rc.d" again), as I don't like how it breaks apt-get install's, and so I never have to remember to do "unfreeze-rc.d" again.
After you've apt got tor and privoxy, jump to step two in the url above, and configure privoxy.
The firefox tor button is quite nice. |
