          | I'd like to run Kanotix in somewhat of an embedded environment. One of the requirements is to have a quicker bootup. Do any utitlities exist to help me turn some services & processes on & off? Is there a quick and dirty way to make the o/s start up quicker?
 Thanks.

          | One trick is to use quiet boot (no messages).
 I'm sure there are others.

          | compile your own kernel .. but that would be a lot of work for someone who didnt do that yet. to save some tome on boot you could disable services from being startet on boot:
 kanotix-su kcmshell knxcc_boot

          | What about something like this?
 Starting services in concurrency mode for a parallel start of services: vi /etc/init.d/rc
 change:
 CONCURRENCY=none
 to:
 CONCURRENCY=shell
